Directors: Robert Rodriguez.
Every film by Rodriguez is a celebration of cinema, and his new one is no exception. "Hypnotic" walks the fine line between camp and trash with confidence and self-awareness that can sometimes challenge and confuse the viewer.
As a fan of Rodriguez's movies, I came into this one knowing what to expect from him. I thoroughly enjoyed the over-acting, over-directing, comic sound design, and bombastic music (composed by his son, Rebel Rodriguez).
However, I believe some people who are not familiar with his style or filmography might find this film unbelievable or poorly executed. Therefore, I would recommend watching his 2007 film "Planet Terror" before diving into this one, as it serves as a good introduction to his style and humor.
I am also delighted to see that Rodriguez continues to edit his own movies. As an aspiring director who also works as an editor, this serves as great inspiration for me.
Verdict: 3.5 / 5 ★ - a fun movie that shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
